Treasured Partners
Help us display our most cherished items
and establish a relationship with the National Library
Treasured Partners is a fundraising initiative of the National Library of Australia. The goal of the initiative is to raise funds to establish the Treasures Gallery, a place where some of our nation’s rarest and most cherished cultural items will be displayed for the enjoyment of all Australians.
The creation of the Treasures Gallery at the National Library of Australia provides a high profile, exclusive opportunity for private individuals, foundations and the corporate sector to establish a significant relationship with one of the world’s great libraries.
Our nation's memory

The National Library, our country’s largest library, collects and nurtures our nation’s memory for the people of Australia.
Since its inception 100 years ago, the National Library’s Collection has grown to become the nation’s largest library. Photographs, books, journals, letters, diaries, paintings, ephemera, films, videos, manuscripts and oral histories are just some of the items held in the National Library’s extensive Collection.
Displaying our Cultural Treasures
Every year hundreds of thousands of people visit the National Library hoping to view Australia’s most well-known and iconic cultural treasures. Captain Cook’s Endeavour journal, William John Wills’ diary, Captain Bligh’s notebook, the sketchbook of Captain John Hunter and the Lycett Album are among the most frequently requested items.
While some of these items are periodically displayed in the National Library’s exhibition gallery, or occasionally lent to other cultural institutions, it has not been possible, due to security and preservation needs, to display these fragile cultural treasures on an ongoing basis.
The Treasures Gallery
The redevelopment of a prominent area of the National Library’s ground floor as the Treasures Gallery, a state-of-the-art exhibition space, will allow the National Library to permanently display our nation’s most revered cultural items. Some of these will be well known, others are hidden treasures which will surprise and engage viewers and reveal a key part of Australia’s cultural heritage.
