Request for Quotation - Metadata Repository and Search System

This Request for Quotation (RFQ) was released in June 1999 and sought offers for the provision of products which to support a Metadata Repository and Search System. The Library will use this system to develop resource discovery services based on metadata and incorporating search and browse web interfaces.

Vendors were invited to submit proposals for products that met the requirements documented in the RFQ available below. A metadata repository was sought that is accessible via the Z39.50 (ISO 23950) information retrieval protocol as well being able to support the search and indexing requirements.

Vendors were asked to explain areas where products do not fully comply with requirements or the extent of configuration or development work required to meet compliance. The Library sought products that met the bulk of the requirements listed with a minimum of customisation or development work.

Responses were to be provided in the following format:

  1. Response to Functional Requirements, section 2.
  2. Response to Technical Requirements, section 3.
  3. Completed proforma for Product technical specifications, section 5.1.
  4. Completed proforma for Product costs, section 5.2.
  5. Completed proforma for Reference sites, section 5.3.
  6. Company and personnel profile.

Responses to the RFQ were to be provided to the Library by close of business (5 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time) on Monday 12 July 1999.
