Scope of AMI
AMI is a subject index to Australian health and medical literature. It also contains abstracts to indexed articles.
Subject scope
Items indexed have a direct relevance to humans. Within this broad statement of scope the following subject areas are recognised in AMI:

AMI SELECTION GUIDELINES
Inclusions
- All original articles regardless of form or length or publication date of article
- Editorials and letters if they constitute substantial articles
- Reprints indexed if not in AMI or APAIS
- Biographies and obituaries are indexed if there is a discussion or description of the persons work or contribution to medicine
Exclusions
- Editorials which editorialise.
- Book reviews
- Summaries of previously published articles
- Summaries or commentaries about a conference
- Articles with no direct relevance to human health or medicine
- Reprints of articles in AMI and APAIS
Formats
AMI is published in two formats: CD-ROM and online.
CD-ROM
AMI is one of eight Australian databases on AUSThealth which covers health and medicine and is published by RMIT Publishing. AMI coverage is from 1968. For subscription details, contact RMIT Publishing
Online
AMI is available online via the Internet as part of the Informit Online service from RMIT Publishing. Webspirs software is being phased out and the new Informit Search interface is now being used for searching and retrieval.
Meditext is a full text version of AMI also available from Informit Online. It not only contains AMI citation records but also links to scanned images of articles from around 100 Australian medical journals indexed in AMI. Full text coverage is from 1996. A list of articles full text journals can be found at http://www.informit.com.au/ftjournals.asp?id=MEDITEXT.

Indexed journals
A list of Comprehensively Indexed Journals in AMI is available. Many articles from these journals are available as full text images in Meditext.
AMI indexes approximately 16 electronic journals and conference proceedings archived in PANDORA. A list of Electronic journals and electronic conferences indexed in AMI is available.
Locating indexed articles
Individual researchers can order copies of any articles indexed in AMI through the National Librarys Copies Direct service. Libraries can send requests to the Library's Document Supply Service.
Many AMI records contain links to full text articles on journal websites. The Meditext full text version of AMI contains scanned images of articles from over 100 journals indexed by AMI.
Medical Subject Headings
All items indexed for AMI are assigned subject headings from the National Library of Medicines publication Medical Subject Headings - Annotated Alphabetic List. For further details contact http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/meshhome.html
